Hi All,
I've got a newer laptop with an expresscard slot, just wondering if anyone here is using a parallel express card to program atmegas or JTAGing with sucessfully? They're a little pricey so I would like confirmation before shelling out the $$$...
Something similar to this;

Yes, those PCMCIA expansion ports work fine in every instance I've tried (jtag, atmega, atmel chip programming etc.) It's the USB to port adapters that often have issues. Make sure you have the right drivers is all.

Can someone link to a specific model of PCMCIA card with a parallel port (JTAG) and also one with a serial port that works for our applications?
I have several laptops and it would be nice to be able to "test" with these rather than my desktop.
I have purchased several serial (9 pin) PCI cards (for the desktop) and can't get any of them to work with my new motherboard.
The startech.com expansion port cards seem to work pretty good for PC applications. I don't think these cards are as common as they used to be and it can be a challenge to get the right drivers for them, but they do work pretty good when set up correctly. Make sure when you get either the PC or PCMCIA versions of expansion ports that it comes with a driver disk or info on where to get the needed software to run the expansion card. You can find these cards cheaper if you look around, but startech does have a fairly good rep.
