i picked up a long distance outdoor bridge that i want to use to connect to an ap (hotspot) in town using this device.

am able to make a connection to the ap but not able to connect to the internet.

any networking geeks out there can help me???

btw, here is a copy of the owner's manual.

got the thing working this weekend. i've got a solid connection to an open wifi access point about a 1/2 mile away.

gee, i wonder how starbucks would react to a charlie letter???

how are you hooking the slinger to the access point?

With a network cable.

yeah with a access point about a 1/2 mile away dont you still have to have access to the router for port mapping?

Not necessarily. Most routers need not to be configured period.

You using a 'cantenna' and what's the signal strength?
(inquiring minds want to know ;-) )


Has to be a line-of-sight shot, you got lucky and hope none of the neighbors plant trees.;-)

ok boys so heres what i got so far i have a vip 622 with an eastern arc dish 1000.4 and a wireless bridge dlink dap 1522 to connect slinger but heres the thing i also have a hot spot connection and its a wireless n across the street i use it for everythinf i was wondering if this bridge will work with out configuration any clues

You got to try it really there no way to tell for sure if you got no admin access to the router.

Sounds like a DNS resolution issue, is it a private or public AP? what do you get when you do an ipconfig /all? do you get DNS server listings?

Did You ever try it with the wifi across the street?

no i havent could i hook my slinger box into back of computer eithernet and us the wireless conecction that my computer is using and where do i buy a 9v adapotor for my slinger never came with one thanks

ok so i got my 9v so now i need too get the new slinger version software where can i get it from now so i dont have too wait for the free downloads thanks

Mclovin, what kind of bridge are you using? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I have 3 unsecured networks in range and surely one will work of the 3. thanks

a lot of public hot spots want you to sign in with a log on name and a password.
some of them I have to open a web browser and if it redirects me to a log in page then I am fucked.
set your wifi properties to a known dns, use google to find a list of them, use any but at&t cause they got the best one and I dont want to use thiers and slow me down LOL.
lots of dns servers. just set your nic or your wifi profile to use one instead of using the automatic one it gives you
