Hey Guys,
I just purchased a 508 off of ebay and when it arrives I want to clone it to match up with a subbed 5800 (b3v). I understand about zero'ing the hard drive and flashing a virgin tsop. However I'm not entirely sure about the card.
The problem is that my subbed card will probably not even be recognized by the virgin software on the receiver. I do have a rom102 though, would it be as simple as programming the rom 102 with the boxkeys of the unit I am cloning? Also would it matter if the 102 image was dish or b3v, virgin image or just any image?
I also have a question about a 501 with a dead hard drive but I will make a new thread for that because it is a different ird.
I did a quick search and didn't find the answers I am looking for...if I have missed a how to that covers this a link would be much appreciated. Thanks.

here is thread that will help you marry the hard drive to the IRD, you will have to match the SK's to clone your sub, if your doing b3v you should already have a G3 card on your sub so the rom 102 will not work.

Thanks for the link, I've done a quick read of it. I really don't have much knowledge of SK's as my previous testing (avr, atmega, rom10 & rom102 - public info) never came to a point where I had to learn about SK's. Apparently I do now though. Is there a good point you could recomend I start my reading up on this? I'm not sure if it is as simple as taking a TSOP dump of my sub and then locating SK's and applying it to the TSOP I write to the 508? My sub is currently on a 2700.
Another question I have is you have mentioned that my rom102 will not work for the remarrage as I already have a G3 card. I am under the impression that I won't be able to insert my G3 card for the initial remarriage as the Virgin TSOP would not recognize a G3 card. Can you elaborate a bit on what card can be used for the initial remarriage of the hard drive.

Just to marry a hard drive you need nothing more than match receiver numbers, no card, boxkeys or SKs needed to do that.
Zeroing is not normally needed, but changing a DN 508 to a b*v 508, it may.
Cloning will need everything to match, an easy process however.

Hey Guys,
I just checked and it looks the the 508 should be here in the next few days. Just a couple of quick questions so I am prepared once it arrives. I'm looking to do a number of things once it arrives. First marry the hard drive to a new set of numbers and second clone it to my subbed bev 2700. As far as I can gather this should be my method of attack.
1) Zero hard drive
2) Find a virgin TSOP that matches the 508 build config
3) load a current TSOP file from the 2700 into source TSOP in flash cloner
4) load the virgin TSOP for the 508 into the destination TSOP in flash cloner
5) click on "Clone Dest. to Source" and then save
6) open newly saved 508 TSOP in flash edit and fill in the ird and boxkey numbers from the 2700 and then fix crc
7) load the new TSOP and Virgin Eeprom into the ird
8) I am a little bit unsure of this part....skinerd you have suggested that the drive will marry without a card, in the past I have used a card. I guess my question is without a card do I just hook the receiver up and plug it in? If so how will I know once it is properly married?
9) Once married do a sector erase so the ird will download latest b3v s/w
Does this sound correct? I'm hoping that I will get lucky and not need to do a vidmod, but if the chips require it then that would of course become step 2. It is also only an assumption on my part that flash cloner can copy DT08 info from one receiver to another....I have not personally used the program yet myself.
Thanks once again for the help guys, I do appreciate it.

My procedure for marrying a HD with a new keyset and updating IRD to latest firmware with P080 TSOP and virgin EEPROM created from TSOP:
1. Ground the square pad of OJ1 -- I ground OJ1 to the metal chassis of the IRD with an alligator clip at the end of a foot-long wire; others simply jump the square pad to the round one with a short wire. In any event, power up IRD. The red and green lights should be illuminated at this point if a 501 or 508; no lights should be illuminated if a 510. Attach jtag.
2. Open jkeys. Go to EEPROM Programming. You do NOT need to powercycle the PVR 5XX IRD in jkeys. Just hit "OK," and the trap will set just fine. Program virgin EEPROM. Close window. Go to Flash Programming. Choose Flash 2 (U7) and erase the entire flash. This will take about 30 seconds to complete. Now, once jkeys allows you do to do it, write the P080 U7 TSOP to Flash 2. Close window. Close jkeys.
3. Unplug IRD. Remove jtag. UNGROUND OJ1 (important!). With blockered card in slot, power up/connect to TV and stream the IRD. After satellite acquisition is over, you should be on channel 101. The HD is now married to the IRD with your new keyset.
4. Unplug and unstream IRD. GROUND OJ1. Power up IRD. Again, the red light should be illuminated (again, only if a 501 or a 508). Attach jtag.
5. Open jkeys. Go directly to Flash Programming. Again, you don't need to powercycle the PVR 5XX IRDs -- just hit, "OK," and the trap will set. Choose Flash 2 (U7) and erase SA54 ONLY. This will corrupt the TSOP and cause a forced update of the firmware when the IRD is streamed again. Close window. Close jkeys.
6. Unplug IRD. Remove jtag. UNGROUND OJ1! With blockered card in slot, power up/connect to TV and stream the IRD. Eventually, you will get to the system information screen -- this will take about 20 minutes, so BE PATIENT! Leave the IRD alone during this period of time! If you leave your TV on, you will eventually see a black screen with crude white type that says that your receiver is being updated and to not disturb it. Heed the message! After the latest firmware is updated, the IRD may (or may not) do a check switch, then it will acquire satellite signal and you will get to the system information screen. Note that the "software" (i.e. firmware) should be at the latest (currently at P408).
7. Unplug and unstream IRD. Put everything back together by removing ejtag (if you jtagged topside) and OJ1 grounding/jumping wire and putting the case back together (only two screws!).
8. Power up/connect to TV and stream IRD. Let IRD acquire satellite.
9. Watch TV.

Thanks for the detailed response. I noticed you do not mention zeroing the hard drive...are the instuctions based on having a brand new drive? Just to be clear, I bought a 508 off of ebay and intend to clone it to match a subbed 2700 I have with bev (508 has dish software on it currently)
I received the ird this morning, unfortunately it has AMD 323GT chipset in it. Is the sticky in this forum still considered to be the best vidmod for this type of chip? A seperate question is am I going to be able to do a sector erase and download the latest B3v s/w onto the unit prior to doing the vid mod? I wouldn't mind getting a saved B3v TSOP with the latest f/w before I jump into the vidmod and hd remarriage.
Thanks for all the help guys!

Just thought I would let you guys know that I got the 508 HD married and the s/w converted over to B3v and cloned to my 2700. Thanks for all the help. I'm not sure if it is worth posting the steps taken as all the info is already available on these forums if you search around for it.
Anyhow thanks again!

Glad you got it working. The 323GT U7 chip requires the R44 vidmod.
