Hi all,

Although I don't post much here and feel like i'm way behind in the knowledge of this hobby, I've been working on dave and chuck stuff since the days of the h card, but have had so much on my plate lately, that I haven't been able to put as much time in as I wish to. BTW- unmetered thanks to Mili and others over the years for providing the tools needed to, at the least, keep researching in a "quick and dirty" fashion when my free time and $$$ is in short supply (special thanks from my kids). You guys are awesome!
I have two vid modded DP510's with rom 102's right now. Obviously, I need to do something soon to hopefully be able to work on the next gen chuck stuff. I have been Mr. Mom to a special needs child and another that learn a lot from the kids channels. I was going to take chuck up on his 9.95 offer for bronze month to month. They said they would waive the 2 year commitment if I provided my own receiver.
My 510's wouldn't be good canidates unless I could get chuck to drop 2 unmarried cards off at the door, because I know they have balances on them and they are also vid modded (what cards are they using for subs these days anyway)?
I have a chance to buy a "like-new" 721, no balance with the two remotes (if I hurry). Would that be a good choice for future tinkering and/or for some sort of IKS setup like slinger until that data is available to put on a card (although it seems smarter and safter to do it the IKS way, which sounds like the way of the future to me). If not, can someone let me know what the cheapest dual tuner DVR model is that would be still be good for my hobby, or IS there a way for chuck to just drop two unmarried cards off at the door and leave and just send me the bill? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hey again,

I guess the most important question is does anyone know what is the difference between the 721 and the 722 is with regard to slinger compatibility and/or vid. modding, jtagging, etc if there IS any difference? I think I answered my own question above... my two 510's are'nt going to work for subs since they have balances on them unless someone knows of a way that dish will just drop of a couple unmarried cards at the door for a "self install". I guess I wouldn't know how to ask about that on the phone without making it sound like i'm trying to hide something.

not sure about the 721 but you will have to send in the 722 for bga tsop programing in order to use a slinger setup, jtaging these ird's is a no go

The 721 isn't jtaggable, either. Both IRDs need a BGA TSOP replacement. I know that the ViP 722 works with the slinger, but I'm not so sure about the 721.

Thanks very much for the replies. The guy also has a cardless 522 dual tuner DVR. Obviously that wouldn't work with the Slinger, but please, does anyone know if it can be modded the "old fashioned" way like an older cardless DVR (can't think of any older models off the top of my head)? Basically, I'm just trying to get a sub going this week and hope that in six months or less, the nagra3 code can be written to a n3 card or cardless board (i'm sure it can, it's just not public yet). Even if that happens, I was thinking about going down to the cheapest month to month so I would have a sub cam ID. I really wish there was a way to use my two 510's, but that would run me 420 for two slingers.
Thanks again,

I had a 721 running til a couple months ago when Dish de-subbed it. They said they no longer were supporting that model. Sent another model to replace it.

The 522/625 has to be chipped, as well.

well, I guess that explains why this guy is selling them so cheap... and selling them to start with. I only have about $100 to spend so If I can't find a receiver at the goodwill w/o a balance, I will have to spend the cash on a slinger. Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
