View Full Version : Slinger orange light

I need some real help with my setup.

Here's my story:

Soon after I got my slinger, I had a hard time getting past the solid orange light to get to the solid green light.

I finally got the green light to blink, but wouldn't go solid green, until I put the slinger card into the receiver. When I did insert the card, it would then turn solid green, and I started getting all of the channels available.

I watched the light on the slinger go from orange to green, and wondered why it worked that way, but didn't worry about it until it stopped returning to green from the orange. That's when I couldn't get any channels.

After some experimenting, I got it to go from orange to solid green by going to channel #102 -- the free preview channel.

But now when I try to get any other channel, it returns to solid orange, and I can't get any t.v. -- The only way to get to solid green is to watch channel #102. WTF -- Who wants to watch that channel when the Angels ballgame is what I want to watch !!

Anybody know what to do with this problem??

It looks like the slinger is having a problem communicating with the server through my wireless router/modem combination. It is an Actiontec GT704WG. A device that was furnished by Verizon DSL.

What I find confusing is that when I first boot up the slinger, it seems to work good for awhile(except for some freezing, & sometimes excessive) and then starts in with getting blackscreen on just about all channels.

I'm hoping somebody out there has an answer for my problem. There might be others with this similar problem!!

Thanks for any help.

Have the same luck here. You can watch, green light working, then goes to orange, you got about 30 seconds or less before it goes black, when green light comes back on you get pix.
I can see the slinger communicating with the server, could be just busy.
I'll keep trying.
Have t1 line here in house. Using a router, could be that. I'm going to try and hook up direct on t1 line and see if that helps the freezing.

I forgot to mention that when first turning on the slinger it blinks orange a couple of times and then starts to blink green. Sometimes I have to reset the slinger before it will start the green blinking. While it is blinking green, I put the slinger card into the receiver, and then it turns to solid green. And it will keep blinking green until I do put the card into the receiver. The receiver has to already be turned on before inserting the card. But then sometimes the receiver won't turn on until the card is inserted. Kind of a mixup here.

The slinger light stays solid green while the IRD is contacting the satellite and continues solid green while downloading the guide. It only runs into the solid orange light problem when it tries to communicate with the server through the router.

I have tried this during peak hours and slow hours of the day, with the same results. Also tried the version 2.00 and version 2.01 software, with the same results.

My problem is obviously a communication problem with the server, but I'm not sure if my router is somehow blocking this.

Hope somebody can help me here !!

Thanks,

I find that when I test the Slinger in diagnostics it checks out just fine. I actually think that it is a server
problem. To many people on the public server because I have noticed that late at night and in the early
hours of the morning. The slinger just works fine and when all the bugs are worked out and all the servers
are in place that they require 1 server for every 40 clients. It should work just fine whither it be private or
public if it is limited I think it will work well. what about when the add on for the fta's come out for N3 or
G3 will they all be Slinger based server's required for them. Will there be a bigger load problem then on
slinger servers?

The slinger servers and the FTA IKS servers are not the same.. some of the FTA's have been running IKS for the last 4-5 months already.. Don't worry about any extra load from FTA's on the slinger server.. it's totally different.

I just got my Slinger working.
My problem was with my wireless router. For some reason it was blocking the communication with the server. The slinger couldn't talk to the server, so that is why the orange light stayed solid orange all the time, and the channels were blacked out. Now that it is working as it should, the orange light comes and goes and turns to green regularly, showing that it is successfully communicating with the server, retrieving the key info.

Thanks to all who helped me with my problem, and I hope my posts help someone else!!

Everythiing was simple enough when you have the right equipment.
I went back to my Westell model 6100 modem from Verizon. hooked up to it a Lynksys model BEFW11S4 wireless router. Hooked up the Slinger to this router.

Programmed the Slinger with the Version 2.01 (LATEST) software. When I got to the "NETWORK CONFIGURATION TAB" I used "AUTOMATIC" setting for the "LAN" FIELD, and left the "PORT CONFIGURATION" at default. When I got to the "IKS CHANNEL "tab, I got tired of always trying to get it to scan, so I wrote down the settings that it came up with, and entered them manually into the boxes. In my case(SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA) I only had to type in 00113 into the right hand box, leaving the lefthand side as is(100), and then type in the password(123456789) Next, just finish out the rest per the instruction sheet for programming the Slinger!

I hope this helps some guys!

Happy t.v. to all

Here's the copy & paste:

Manual work around for Rom102
Enjoy while this little trick lasts loll

1 go to menu #7 Timers

2 at timers select (create)

3 at create timer - Check mark in Box for VCR then select any channel like one of your locals then put a Check mark in Box for that channel then select (Set Date/Time)

4 then at (Set Date/Time) set the time give you self 3 to 4 minutes on the start time then set the end time for several hours, then select (create Timer) when the timer runs the blacked out channels will end

Then just let the timer start, after the timer has started then go to one of the blacked out channels you will get the (Attention 361 Nag) then press the guide button then press the view or cancel button (your channel should be on then) it works until the timer runs out, or if you turn the receiver off.

Notes: If you don’t have a VCR code entered it will ask you for one just put any thing in 111

You can change channels and still go back as long as your timer is still active.

Still having a problem with my slinger, getting orange light while I am watching t.v.
It consistantly goes from orange to green for awhile, and then goes back to solid orange for all night, without going green, and that is when I stop getting any t.v. completely.

When the t.v. picture freezes it is because the orange light didn't turn to green soon enough to pickup and transmit the keys. As soon as the light does turn green, that is the instant when I get t.v. again.

I thought the router and modem setup was causing the problem, and eliminated the router completely, hooking the slinger directly to the modem. The same thing happened without using the router.

The slinger is simply not communicating properly with the server at my location here in So. Calif. -- Also tried the same setup at a different house location nearby and at a different city. Same thing happens!

Seems to me that the server is either too far away, or too busy, or both.

What about anyone in different states? Back east for instance?

Come on guys, tell us if you are having good luck without freezing, and what are you doing different than me!

I still need some help, or will be getting rid of the slinger!

Thanks,

Last night I restarted the slinger more than 24 times before I got anything to work.
After I did, I got one hour of t.v. and it froze 15 times. And then it froze for an 8 hour period while I slept. Woke up in the morning and couldn't get it to work at all.

Good luck to you guys.

I got everything fixed, the problem was with my EEPROM bin file, I used the public cleaned bin inside KSlingerVersion2.02\Dumps directory and copied CAM, BOX key, dt06 and dt08 info from my private bin to the public cleaned bin. After that I started getting picture.

I heard that they have installed a new server to correct most of these orange light problems, because server was overloaded.

However, I am still getting an orange light that indicates that the server is not responding, and then when the green light comes on so does the picture and sound. This orange and green light keep alternating on a regular basis when all is working o.k. - but too often the orange light stays on too long and that's when I lose the picture and sound.

If the server could communicate more often, I think the green light would stay solid, and then we would really have something great!!!

How about the rest of you guys???

Good luck,

I don't put anything there. Just leave on automatic. I tried static with all my settings, and didn't work any better!

Do not help this user. After I busted my ass spending day helping his dumbass sort things out he decided to solve his Slinger problems by charging back telling his bank that the Slinger I sent him was not as described.
If he does not retract his charge back within a day I will post all my MSN conversations and emails and his order details right here on this forums.
I would like to convey a heart felt fuck you to you SURFGUY, you got 24 hours.
