hi good evening fellows a buddy of mine modded a SB4200 for me. is this a good modem to do? since it is a earlier model of modems? with the new technology that cable vision has can it detect this box that is modded. and from 1 out of 10 what number would you guys give me for this modem with the technology cable vision has? i do not want no trouble so i am asking questions before i get into something i do not know about. can someone take time out and help a buddy out? any help is appreciated.

Depends on what you mean by "modded". Did he clone you to another "active sub" or are you pulling your own active IP from CableVision's system?
If and when they do a "line trace marathon" (I worked as a cable tech for a few months), they will "see" your device in the conversion tables (unless it is cloned to an active sub) and be able to trace it down to the cluster you are in. Depending on the density of your neighborhood, this may mean they can track you down to a subdivison, street, or (if you don't have many neighbors) which room the modem is in.
Which mod are you using? Blackcat?

Just change your NIC mac and the modem mac at least once a month and you should be fine. The best modem would be an SB5101 with haxorware.
