View Full Version : slinger with wi-fi hotspot
I receive my high speed internet from somewhere in the area, I live in the country and don't know who supplies the service. it says public domain on the server info. I use a yagi antenna with a router booster and i've been told i could be getting the signal from as far as 5 miles.
I tried to hook up a magic jack phone system and after 3 hours with their tech support, they told me that i couldn't log on with the provider I'm using. Do you think I would have the same problem with the slinger?
I'm told that the magic jack needs to have ports 5060 or 5070 open and I'm not getting them.

do you have a router connected to your high speed internet?
What is your setup? computer (ethernet/wifi) ----> router ----> modem ? or computer (wifi adapter) straight to the provider?
once you figure out what is going on with the connection then you can find out whats causing the problems.
if all connections outbound are good then most likely its your provider.
best thing to do is go to live.sysinternals.com download a prog called Tcpview
or go to
download.sysinternals.com/Files/TcpView.zip
run it on your windows machine and find out all connections.
make sure your router nat is set up corretly to forward ports to your local ip ex (192.168.1.100)
another prog you can use is the upnp app that mili found. its here in the forums somewhere.

I get the Internet thru wifi and have no problem with magicjack but slinger I can't set up because I don't have access to the router but you may be able to use dial up if you get the magicjack to work the best little invention ever 20.00 dollars a year and talk all day.

magic jack is nice. i have one also. if you get sip login info you can use any sip phone program without the nagging magic jack prog.
asgard... since you don't have access to the router use that upnp program. maybe it will work.
try default passwords too.
