1. I have a 625 from DN and plan to purchase a ViP722. From what I have read, the Slinger requires a ROM102 card, is this the standard card that came with my 625 receiver when I signed up with DN? The one that is currently in the receiver...

2. If I go through with this and I send in my 722 receiver for modification, do I need to send in the card from Q1 as well?

3. How bad is the freezing? It sounds like Slinger connects all over the place, so there is a possibility to be watching TV and experience minor freezes throughout watching TV.

Assuming I have a satellite already setup, I need the 722 receiver, card that came with my 625 receiver, the Slinger itself, and the receiver modification service for the 722, correct?

if you send in your 722 for the bga modding service you will not need the rom102 from your 625, the issue of freezing is related to the way you set up your modem and in some cases by the spped of your internet connection, my slinger is practically freeze free.

I have a very fast connection, so I wouldn't be worried about that.

Right now I already have my Vonage adapter setup in DMZ, but it may continue to work outside of DMZ.

How bad is your freezing? You mention that you have a little of it, but how bad? Am I going to see a couple seconds here and there while I'm watching tv? Or am I only going to have slowness while I'm channel surfing?

I start seeing some micro-freezing lasting less than a second about every 15 minutes or so after watching the the same channel over a period of about 4 or 5 hours, I solve my freezing problem by re-booting my slinger and then its good for another 4 or 5 hours of freeze free viewing, if I channel surf I get no freezing

What happens when you record something? If I leave the house for 5 days and have a bunch of stuff setup to record, and I'm not able to restart the Slinger, are my recordings going to have that freezing problem?

I usually see freezing with Dish every couple days, I'm pretty sure it's just a bad satellite signal - some kind of interference.

well I leave my slinger on channel 101 when I'm not watching tv, this is a free channel so no bandwidth is used up on the slinger server, when I record a program it goes thru the record cycle and goes back to 101 when the cycle is over, if the channel I'm recording is longer than 4 hours then I dare say yes I will get some micro-freezing.

If I have available web servers, is it possible to setup my server in a way that would let me Slinger connect to it to obtain the codes? I'm sure having this server on the west coast would make everything much quicker and decrease the possibility of a freeze.

I wish I had an example of how bad the micro-freezing can be. There's a little I'd put up with, but if it's too noticeable I don't think I would want to drop $800 on all the equipment and end up with all the channels and some freezing every couple hours.

Sounds like you've lost sight of what folks are doing with this product. If you want perfect freeze free service you should subscribe. That way you'll only be paying $400/month and be getting less....but it will be totally freeze free.

I agree, if you can't put up with a lil freezing from time to time and maybe a lil down time then a Subscription is for you.
This is a hobby and nothing is guranteed. Never has been & never will be.

I was hoping for similar speed from the previous N2 cracks/hacks using Viewsats or other receivers.

I'd rather spend $40/month for reliable service with few channels, than spend $800 upfront with the probability of freezes/restarts.

The Slinger sure is an awesome idea, I just thought it was for the average person and worked flawlessly. Guess I'll wait until an N3 crack comes out, or the Slingers work a bit better.

I appreciate all the advice and answers on here, you guys have been very helpful.

Your sacred FTA's and their IKS aren't working even as good as the slinger is. You definately sound like the type that would be better off subbing.
