I have some mpeg's and avi 20min clips I want to convert to dvd. I think this weekend I have downloaded pretty much any dvd burning and converting software I could get ahold of. The problem I am having is the mpeg's and avi's look, play and sound good as they are but when i convert them to dvd I lose sound. The video seems to be good but there is no sound. I've checked the settings and from what I can tell eveything seems to be working right. Burned lots of dvd's with dvdsanta and have had pretty good luck but first time trying to convert anything. Anybody have any Ideas? I know it's hard to say without knowing what programs I have used but would take me all day to list them.

Have you just tried pain old Nero. I use good old Nero 7 ultra edition and it does exactly what you want to. I have tried the newer versions of Nero and they will work too, but they use more resources and I find that they are a little more cumbersome to work with. See if you can find a copy of 7 ultra and it will do exactly as you want. You can do one clip at a time into individual DVD's or you can burn them all as "chapters" and use only a single DVD. I suspect that you problem is more with the conversion. Somewhere in converting them you are losing the sound. Just my 2 cents.

I have used both of your suggestions. I have used nero 4, 7 essentionals and 9. I have also used vso with no luck. It's really weird. I'm not bragging but I'm really not that dumb with computers and software but just can not get this to work. ticking me off.

Try AVS video converter. It will do any format to any format. It's a bit slow is all. I think the latest version is version 6.

Are you saying you lose sound no matter what program you use to convert?
(if thats the case you need to check your cables on your DVD player)

these video clips have sound before you burn them right?some programs separate the A/V and then put them back together.

if your puter can play it converXtodvd can convert it,you should stick with convertX
try playing one of the VOB files after convertX converts it to DVD format(it makes a folder in the mydocuments folder)

XPcodec pak and convertX should be able to handle any thing ya throw at it

btw.dont strip out any alternate audio tracks(some times its the only audio)

If I burn a dvd then there is sound, if I burn mpeg's and avi's theres no sound. It can't be the burner or cables cause I can burn dvd movies. It has to be something in the conversion or the way I'm converting. I wouldn't I'm doing something wrong with every program I use.

- convert avi using ConvertXtoDVD - youll end up with 2 folders - 1 is video & the other is audio
Do not add the audio folder when you go to burn with Nero (video only)
If you're doing this already , i'm not sure what's up .

I downloaded a newer version of convertxtodvd then i was using and still nothing. I have the audio and video folders but the audio is empty. It has to be something with the avi files i'm trying to convert.

FYI - the audio folder should be empty - just thought it might be screwing things up if you placed in Nero.
(it should take approx. an hour to convert a typical AVI in ConvertXtoDVD , is this the case for you ?)

I had a problem like yours but with video I found this and it helped.

The CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) is a DirectShow filter pack. Read a basic introduction on our FAQ page.

Take a look at your set up on your computer. I use a dvr card in my computer. Sound in I use the mic. Sound out etc. It sounds like you might not have your computer set up correctly. One thing I like about a video card in my computer is that if I can watch the movie and hear it then I can record it no matter what the decrypt method they use.

Hope that helps,

Joe

visualHub for OSX is hands down the fastest program I have ever witnessed.

using a 2.13GHz macbook I could convert a full movie AVI to DVD in around 45 minutes. about 2x the runtime of the movie. no sync issues.
