Generally, DN requires a phone line be hooked up on a second receiver. This is to do a caller ID check to make sure it's at the address listed for the sub. If it dosen't call home then the second sub is turned off.

Before you say what if I have caller ID blocked? Well caller ID blocking is nice but the receiver calls a 800 number and even with caller ID block they still get your home number.

The only exception to this rule I know of is when the second receiver is used in a travel trailer. They do require a VIN number for this to work.

Could very well be true now Hysteria. My info is about 4 years old from when I orginally installed my two receiver sub system. They required both be hooked up the the phone line.

They may have relaxed the rules since sales are down and many customers are canceling sub's or switching to DTV.
