View Full Version : 92% signal strength with 'rain fade'

Just wanted to let you all know that it is possible to have 92% signal strength and still be experiencing 'rain fade' so bad you can't watch tv. Yesterday I replaced the RG6 between the dish and receiver for a friend of mine. Somehow water had gotten into the old cable and it caused extensive pixilation just like severe rain fade does. Even though the picture was so bad you couldn't watch it, the signal strength was 92%. So don't forget to use your little rubbers on all your connections outside or tape them up to keep water from getting into your cable. I just thought I would post this info in case anyone else runs into this phenomenon.

One thing that I would like to add JT ..

Always use a dielectric gel on all your conections to replel water and avoid corrosion...
It is a clear silicon that doesn't harden and can be found in any automotive store ....

Hey 4x4, is that the same stuff you put on your batter cables to stop them from getting all crusty?...

Hey 4x4,
Thanks, you've given me a great idea. It's NASCAR License renewal time, or the time that I choose to renew next years lic. We get the New Manuals also, so when Il get the New NASCAR Rules Manual, I'll Look it up for our Divison. Every little edge helps.
I know I have never seen our head Mechanic put anything inisde the caps before and the plug wires come out of a hermetically sealed bag and right on the engine. Anyway, I will look into it. You are the man..
