Question Receiving a letter from DTV

Can anyone recommand me what action should I take.
I received a letter from DTV about Purchase of illegal Satellite Signal Theft Devices. It warned me of bringing me to court if I don't comply.
Here are the demand from DTV.
1.Surrender all illegally modified Access Cards or other satellite signal theft devices in my prossession
2. Execute a written statement to the effect that I will not purchase or use illegal signal theft devices to obtain satellite programming in the future.
3. Pay a monetary sum to DirectTV for my past wrongful conduct and the damages thereby incurred by the company.

Then it asked my to contact an Investigator at End User Devleopment Group.
Does anyone have this same problem? And What should I do?

Thank you for your help.

Do not send them anything. It's the proof they need to convict you of a larger crime, and they will do exactly that. Do not contact them yourself, only communicate through an attorney. There is a thread around here with names of attorneys that specialize in this. Do not cooperate with Dave on any level. Make them do the work. They can not prove you used the equipment. You are much better off to pay an attorney than to pay Dave. ri2818 had a lame attorney if that is the advice he gave. If an atty tries to tell you to just pay up, find another atty...preferably one with some balls. You will need an atty though.

You should have made DTV prove that it wasn't somebody else using your credit card to make the purchase. Identity theft is a popular crime now days. The letter is a scam no matter how you slice it. Any decent atty will see it for what it is. And as you well know ri2818, a $3500 return on a $.36 cent stamp is a nice profit margin. They put that money you paid them into greasing their own atty's and politicians so they could send more letters, so they could get more settlements, so they could send more letters....see what I mean. Keep the money out of Dave's pocket if it's humanly possible.

Even if you would lose in court they still have to try to collect which is a whole nuther ball of shit. What are they going to get from me my three kids that will eat them into bankruptcy as they are doing me right now.If you have the 3500 bucks to pay Dave well then you shouldn't be stealing their signal anyway but paying Dave to watch TV! :flipa: Fuc$ them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :flipa:

Thank you all for those advices.
Here are another question I need to clarify.
DTV sent out a letter. And DTV knows where you live then it certainly
know if you are part of DTV subscriber or not.
Can it argue in court that you have a satellite dish install but did not a subscribe member. Therefore, you are using it illegally.
Can DTV ask the law enforcement to have a search warrant to search your house for illegal equipment?.

Where i live you still have rights in your home and getting a search warrent is not that easy. Must have a wittness to see you do these unlawful things in your house then it would be criminal not just a cival action against you.

The only thing DTV has is credit card receits that were either handed over by the sites he has busted or the were confiscated in raids at busted sites. Most were handle by a third partywhich makes there evidence that can't be used against anyone in court.Evidence has to be handled in certain legal ways and keep that way.

could DTV send a letter and have a case against someone who's from a country, other than the US or Canada, where this stuff is legal?

According to the advice I had so far. Wait until I get the summon to serve in court then find a lawyer who has experience with this case.
According to some of my reading. When you call DTV to settle it will ask you to pay $3,500 and render all your "illegal devices" and sign a document not to purchase these devices again. And not to fill a lawsuit against DTV in the future.

What ever you do, do not contact DTV yourself. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, sign ANYTHING DTV asks you to sign or turn over any equipment of any kind. DTV knows what it is doing with 'the letter' is illegal and immoral, hence, part of the agreement they ask you to sign includes the clause protecting them from potential lawsuits resulting from their actions.

If you get an email, cancel the email address and ignore it all together. Email is not a valid way to contact you regarding this issue. All emails about this kind of thing should be ignored completely.
