Platinum III EMU

Hey "Dish Guys",

Platinum III EMU was sold on the pretence that it worked on "Charlie" as well as "Dave"...! Well now that "Dave" is dead temporarily, (and I mean temporarily, because we all know that the P4 hack does exist), I screwed around with Platinum III on "Charlie" all day with no success...! What is the secret to light this puppy up...? I have tried 5 different IRD's to no avail, where is the magic key hidden....?

Thanks,

Wolf

Doobiedog,

Platinum 3n works well with Yousemu1.4. Run it under XP and you'll be up and running in 5 minutes.

Thanks Feech,

Let me try to understand what you are saying:

1 - No need to worry about making a Platinum boot up disk....

2 - Build a puter and install XP as the OS....

3 - Load YousEmu proggy....

4 - Designate Com 1 as the IO port....

5 - Connect the Platinum hardware to the IRD and puter....

6 - Watch TV....

Am I missing something...? This is to easy...!

Thanks - Wolf

You got it!!! Maybe less then 5 minutes. Don't forget to configure you ini for each proggy. I have 2 receivers running B and D at the same time on a 450mhz computer.

Feech,
Well it like kinda works....Gets about 5 channels and some music stations....Am using the same YousEmu proggy that is getting everything on an EMU, except changed the Box Keys and IRD of course....Your post mentioned "Platinum 3n", I am using Platinum III, is there a difference...?
Thanks,
Wolf

There's only 1 Platinum 3 that will do both Dave and Charlie that I am aware of. If you are getting music channels and previews then Yvous is working. It should be your config or dish bin that is causing this. Are you running V1.4?

Wolf, check your IRD setup. If you are using a new IRD, check your dish setup in installation.

Wolf, If you are getting a few channels.....preview..music..etc, then I think your computer and emu are working. I'm not familiar with your ird but if you are using it for the first time with your dish setup, make sure you have the latest update, test and configure the switch..etc . Keep testing!

Question for feetch or any and all Platinum III testers:

When Charlie adds an ECM to the data stream, has it affected your TSOP so that it requires to be reprogrammed with a JTAG...? Or is it protected...?

I don't want to leave the IRD in the data stream if an ECM will destroy the TSOP.... The IRD I am using for this test is a Model 1000 and it has no JTAG ports....

Thanks,

Wolf

Wolf,
Without a lock an ECM will trash you TSOP. Platinum 3 is no exception. I once made a mistake on the IRD# and the TSOP got wiped.

What if I use an IRD that has a TSOP port that accepts a Jtag....Such as a 301:013, or a 3900....Can the TSOP be reflashed after it takes a hit...?

Cool

The 301-13 has to have a vid mod done to it to put the tsop into a weiteable state. A little solder a resistor and a diode and a switch. Charles likes to hit tsop, sooner or later no matter how carefull you are, it will happen. Do your self a favor do the vidmod and get/build a jtag, and digital locks are a plus if they haven't found a way to target them yet.

Thumbs up

I had a Platinum 3n from the HU days, and can now use it with B3V. I am still using my old P200 machine with CEMU. I hooked it up yeterday and with a little help from a couple of very good people (Cancom and YF1), It is running perfect. I am ordering a programmable lock and will install it later next week.

I am running:

B3V 2700 w/JTAG (non-buffered)
CEMU (for DOS)
P200 w/64 Mb
Platinum 3n EMU

Hopefully getting another 2700 to use with ECHO*. Then will build a built in emulation system into it.

Thank You to all the people in this forum. I haven't posted much, but all my answers are getting answered by doing a lot of searching.

Gimp your platIII will run most if not all public dish emu programs, Cemu is one, yvous is another one, there are several around go to the files page and scan around a little bit, they are all pretty easy, look at the activity on the monitor, takes longer to come in than dave once program is running. Yvous - get latest ver of s/w to harddrive hook up plat same as dave open the ini file plug in your ird and bxkeys, open the program and wait a few min with sat signal coming in.

The vidmod puts the tsop in a WRITEABLE state, sorry for the misspelling in earlier post. It does this by putting 12 volts to some kind of enable that lets the tsop be rewritten. So far though, you have been able to erase without it, and let the stream rewrite it for ya, but Charles may decide to rectify that any day so it is best to go ahead and do it you need a switch some wire, solder an 1n1447 zener diode and a 220ohm 1/4 watt resistor. and pretty steady hands. I need a couple of shots to steady the hand, it is kind of fine solder work.
