The metering rods are tapered rods that sit in the main jet. They are held in the main jet by
engine vacuum.Idling, cruising decelerating all cause high vacuum keeping the metering rod in the jet.when accelerating engine vacuum falls off allowing the springs( you speak of )to lift the tapered metering rod up out of the jet effectively making the jet larger and passing thru more fuel. These springs are usually, but not always, colour coded. Symptoms of wrong springs-stummble,hesitation,flat spot onacceleration-weak spring backfire, flodding, poorgas mileage-springs too strong. It can be a trial and error deal. Please don't forget to check your ignition timing as this greatly affects engine vacuum . hope this helps. WRENCH |

I have edlebrock 600cfm card, my tailpipe emmisions are super rich with catlyst converter. Now the 2 screws on front are air adjustment right? out for less fuel and in for more fuel...some people tell me they are fuel adjustments and want to turn them mostly in to take less fuel.
This is for an everyday driveing truck...the engine was built for a 68 chevelle that was smashed up and put in my truck. It is 75 350 HEI with rollor rocker arms maybe a cam...high rise with carb adapter, single exhaust. I think I may need duel exhuat for better flow. I have put about 12k mi and I belive there was 20-40k on engine. I perfer stock engine but knucklehead had this put in before I bought it. symtoms include: rich running and right now spark wires arching on block. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
