Rocky Mountain High

Yeah, I remember those days well. I lived in the Boulder area...every weirdo in the country passes through Boulder at one time or another...I can remember when streaking was a big deal there, and we used to hang out around the University of Colorado to watch 'em...my wife had a lot more to look at, since the men outnumbered the women about 10 to 1...when I'd get tired of that, I'd drive up Flagstaff Mountain - 9000 feet - in my old van, with a 300w linear and twin 102" whips. You could straight-shoot 100 miles. When the skip was in, hell, New York was a piece of cake...
As to John Denver...nah, not really. I liked loud-ass rock and roll music. And there was a lot of it to be heard there in Boulder. Caribou Ranch...the recording studio up in the hills above Boulder...is where Chicago and many other big-name bands put their music together..theory was the high altitude affected the sound in a positive way. I think they all just got stoned and didn't know the difference. Anyway, lots of musicians to be heard..and that suited me just fine.
If I had a CB now, oldphart, how would I sign on..."Mercy sakes, good buddy, you got your loader on?"

70's, CB's

No way on the disco. I always thought Donna Summer was pretty foxy...but I never could warm up to the music. Just always liked good classic rock. Not doo-wop, now, just 60's and 70's stuff. A little more power won't help your cause. A ten-fold increase in power doesn't convert to a ten-fold increase in range. Doesn't work that way. I don't recall repeaters for CB radios...if I remember right, they weren't even legal. Get yourself a ham rig, or a satellite phone. Cost your ass, but if you need that kind of reliable communication at long range...you got to pay the fiddler if you're gonna dance, as they say.
Radios in planes? K, avionics have transpired to a point to where I couldn't even begin to tell you. There are as many different types of radios as there are planes. Get a current aviation magazine, or just go to your local airport and start asking questions. When you fly that old Cessna, what do you use, two cups and a string?
