spot beams
need a little clarification on spot beams
I know that there as been a lot of talk about that but still not clear ex..I live in Burlington..and I get signal on 110 transponders 4/6/8/10 on 119 transp 1/3..which I believe these are spot beams..now when I program card with RTM..how do I know which channels to choose..I looked at the spot beam maps in RTM..but still confused tks |

All the spot beamed tiers in RTM have a number in (). For example (0) means no spotbeam and will be received anywhere in the US. (10) would mean spotbeam 10. I don't think these numbers actually correspond to spot beam transponders. I think it's just a convient numbering system. You have to use a combo of the sat (110 or 119) and the spotbeam id (X) to determine if they come in in your area.
Using your example of Burlington it is sat 119 spotbeam id (13) So any locals marked sat 119 SBid (13) will come in for you. In this case sat 110 SBid (13) and (14) overlap sat 119 SBid (13). So you may be able to receive channels from them as well. t160hq |

it's getting more and more clear now, one last question, what do you mean to use a combo of the sat (110-119)and the spotbeam id (X) to determine if they come to my area tks |

Both sats 110 and 119 have spotbeams. So you need to look at both spot beam maps to see what's overhead.
Once you have the spotbeam numbers for you area you use the sat number and spotbeam number to see what tiers you can receive. The spotbeam id number for 119 in your area may not be the same as the spotbeam id number for 110 in your area. You may also be able to receive more the one spotbeam from the same sat. In the Burlington example you can receive 3 spotbeams. 2 from the 110 sat and one from the 119 sat. 119 (13) <----- combo of sat and spotbeam id 110 (13) 110 (14) All can be received in Burlington. RTM lists both the sat number and the spotbeam id in the description of the tier. t160hq Last edited by t160hq; 08-16-2003 at 05:08 PM.. |
