Gonna buy a cell phone.....Need some advise
Wife got a job out of town and she wants a cell phone. I had 2 phones a couple years ago but could not get reception out here in the woods so I got rid of them. Now since she travels about 40 miles she wants a phone to call or get calls from the kids or if she breaks down or whatever. Since I have been out of the loop for awhile, I wondered it you present cell users could give me some good info on some providers....

Depends on location... If you are in Canada, I sujest Telus if they serve your area.
Tried both Bell and Rogers and reception is shitty as hell. I too am in the woods and Telus is the only thing workin for me. |

Im in the states. I live along way out of town and reception sucks. Only worked in roaming. Costs too much to use.
You ever see that commercial with that dude saying," can you hear me now?" Well, he hasnt showed up here yet! Mopar |

you might have to do some experimenting on your own .some providers are better than others but that'll totally depend on where you live . just make sure when you sign up for a phone that they will allow you to return it if you cant get reception . OR , you could try a few of your friends phones first , see what works

I have been a cingular customer for a long time, I would say get cingular if you live around alot of dirt roads.
If you live in the mountains, like Virginia, you better get verizon because if you have cingular you will find yourself driving to get signal. If you get cingular, get a nation wide plan even if you don't go on trips, it keeps you from having to pay those roaming charges. My plan is the four hundred and fifty daytime minutes, thirty five hundred nights and weekends minutes with roll over, it has alot of options even some I don't even use and I pay thirty nine ninty nine plus redneck tacks or as some call it ankle sam tax , a month.Ghost

I am over here in Washington state. What about the phone you can talk to someone but not be on the phone? It doesnt take up any minutes to use. And will it work in the country? Anyone use it when hunting?

That is Altel, better check and make sure they have service there, don't where I live in Mississippi. But we don't have a lot of things here, but we got the most beautiful women.

Verizon has the best coverage in the states. Most other providers loose signal if you are not near a large city or an interstate highway.

Providers are required to furnish coverage maps to all potential customers. Dont be afraid to ask for them as they are the best tool you can get. Ask your neighbours what they use.
With all the advances in microwave transmission, it still puzzles me that there is spotty reception in rural areas.

I have had ATT , atell and cingular and did not like any of them as I stay on the road from tex to NY and I have had verizon for about a year now and so does my wife and 2 sons and we love the service. We can talk to each other or any verizon customer and it is free to talk to any verizon phone now and the coverage is GREAT. My son in the NC mountains is in college and can call me from his dorm room att and cingular would not work up there in the mountains. Hope this helps
