HDTV Receivers question
As you know I am not too informed when it comes to DishNet and even less than when it comes to the HDTV aspect of it.
My questions are: 1, What models are the nicest to have? 2, What is the exact hardware involved? Dish (LNB count)? Set top box if any? How many cables to the receiver (set top box)? 3, Can a DigiLock be installed? 4, Do they have a JTAG port? 5, If you use a ROM with a private blocker how often is it or the IRD hit and what the most likely nature of the ECM? 6, Anybody has a complete system that wishes to part with it? Thanks mili

My questions are:
1, What models are the nicest to have? Dish only makes one model. The 6000U. It comes in two versions: 6000U----Just the receiver 6023UQ----Same receiver but two dishes and a multi-switch that allows you to link both dishes and run one wire to the receiver. Both come with the Enhanced HD Adapter that can receive QPSK or 8PSK HD signals. If you pick up one used make sure you get this with it. It costs 100 US to get one if you don't already have it. Some but not all programming requires it. An optional 8VSB Tuner Cartridge allows you to receive local analog and digital off-air broadcasts. Extra 149 US. Not included with the system. 2, What is the exact hardware involved? Dish (LNB count)? Set top box if any? Two dishes. One dish 500 with a Quad LNB. One dual LNB and dish for either the 61.5 or 148 orbital slots. HDTV programming is carried on both sats. All channels. Not sure what Multi-switch is used but I would guess it's a SW64. That means six wires to the switch and up to four sat receivers. One wire to each receiver. It works on all DN receivers Legacy or Dish Pro. The downside of this switch is it can't be mounted outside. The power supply for it is not water proof. That means running six wires from the dishes to a inside location. Then single wire runs to individual receivers. Up to four receivers with a SW64. Any dish models not just the 6000. How many cables to the receiver (set top box)? One from the dishes. To the TV depends on the TV and the HDTV hookups on it. Surround sound system if you are going to use one and how you will be hooking it up. (R+L, fiber optic, digital coax). 3, Can a DigiLock be installed? Yes but with great difficutly. Because of the triple layer construction of the PCB boards it's very hard to cut the traces necessary to install the lock. On the plus side a 6000 receiver has never been hit in a ECM no matter what's on the CAM. (3M, Legit Tiers, Blocker). 4, Do they have a JTAG port? Yes. Hookup is a bit different then standard Jtag ports. Most Jkeys versions work with the 6000. More TSOP's though. I believe the 6000 has 2. 5, If you use a ROM with a private blocker how often is it or the IRD hit. and what the most likely nature of the ECM? The 6000 has never been hit. At a guess I would say it would be along the lines of a TSOP America's top one hit if it ever happens. But since they have never done it, my guess is they either can't or won't. 6, Anybody has a complete system that wishes to part with it? Not me. But if you want new, Sears in the states carries them. They run about 725 US plus tax. Checked them out about two months ago. DN sells them on their website for 699 US. Me, I perfer a cash on the counter walk out the door sale. Personally, I like to give addresses of major local political figures when asked. Warped sense of humor I guess.:-) If you want one let me know. After all you have done for me, least I can do (This website for one). My cost plus shipping. I'll get exact figures and get back if you want it. t160hq

Intresting Fubr. I wonder if they are planning on replacing it with a new model or just dumping the whole HDTV idea.
I never thought HDTV would take off anyways. It's the most poorly planned and implemented change in TV since TV was invented. Unless they start making it a lot simpler to set up and operate and get around the "Oh my gawd, You mean I have to spend 900 bucks more just to get a few channels of HDTV!" After spending 2000 to 5000 on that brand new HDTV and comming to the shocking realization that no HDTV signals are availiable. I know I would be a bit pissed off when I spent that kind of money and got home to find out I can't get any of those great pictures seen in the showroom. Without sending another grand or so for a sat and Progressive Scan DVD. I really expect HDTV to go the way of 4 channel stereo, 8-Tracks, and S-VHS Vcr's. t160hq |

Wouldn't that be a Kick in the ass as they have launched the Nimiq2 for that purpose to be included in programming.

LOL. One small problem. The cutoff point for the current standard is 3 years. Maybe about 2 million HDTV sets out there. Even if they convince another 10 million to buy them...
I sure don't want to be the ad man that explains to the advertiser that we are going to be able to brodcast your ad to 12 million homes. Not 100 million like we used to. Or to the TV viewer. Well your going to have to spend about 200 dollars per tv to receive just what you had before. Not any better anything! If you still want tv you have to buy these boxes to get it. Can you say consumer boycott. LOL t160hq |

boycott
personally I think they are making millions , it is like radio we listen to ads and stupid promotions even political plugs but is free. now they want to charge us for tv where on most channels are commercials mostly telling us how they have the best programming and how great they are and now this. I read a post the other day where this guy said t charlie told him he could not use a 4000 (been out of stream to long)because of the new software. Trust me that is B.S. It will take a update they just want him to trade and pay for a newer IRD. Echo is going thru a mojor structur change rite now and I hope like hell the rite person gets pissed and starts leaking......hope I am not getting off topic I like the site and the advice and do wish to comply.

7200 Hdd
If anybody has a 7100 or a 7200 with anything other than at least a 20 gig HDD it is simple to put in a bigger one the ird will even format it for you. standard is 20 gig rite now but i heard some success with 40's.
thing is have to solder in to the 32 pin dip socket to get tsop and make lock is pain cause of the different chips but these models will get winked alot just not back to address 00001. just have to reboot and get rid of this receiver not authorized nag. not excatly sure how but maybe somebody can fill in the blanks for me as I too have one I would like to keep going I had it up for 4 hours once and when it went out i put ir back up. anyone interested I can find the link for the HDD upgrade and send it. If not I will not waist my time looking for it. thing is site no longer exist but I have it on my Hard drive if I can figure out a way to send it. nothin to it but to do it

t160hq I sent you an email to the registered addy you got here it seems you did not get it. Please email me with the list of hardware needed and the price, my friend wants to get one. He is one of those who just figured that the TV is only part of the equation
and does not even have a progressive scan DVD player.mili |

7200's and the like are flakey at best. Only recently has DN and Microshit stopped fighting enough to make them work the way they should. With the latest upgrades to receiver and HD they do pretty well.
I have noticed that 3am download of guide info has gone from a few minutes to ten or more. But it works better than it ever has. Haven't lost a recorded or planned record in the last 4 months. t160hq |
