Sound problem with XP
I have a Compaq EVO N410C with dual boot on windows 200 Pro as well as Win XP Pro on different partition , the sound card under Win 2000 is working perfect with no problem at all
But under Win XP it doesn't work as it should be , if you listen to any songs or even watch movie or even chat with friends online over MSN , the sound is like faster than it should be and sound like a baby talking Here is what I did try to solve this problem and still no chance 1) The sound card is Intel 82801CA/CAM AC 97 Audio Controller 2) I did verify that the latest driver is installed according to windows update web page 3) Try different player such as Windows media player & Winamp & Real player and I get the same problem - so it is not a player problem 4) I reformat the partition with NTFS and re-install Win XP and still same problem 5) I am sure that the sound card it self is working great as it is function perfect under Win 2000 Could you help me please with any other solution ?? |

It sounds like the program is not interfacing with the card right.
Make sure the sound functions are all turned on in XP from the computer management / services and apps / services / windios audio uninstall the CARD in the start / control panel / system / hardware / device manager while running XP. Then re-install it with with the driver disk with XP running. Skip any updates until you see if it is working. Updates DO NOT always make things better, sometimes they screw up a good system.

Did you ever install any audio drivers in XP before you got the card ?
XP does not come with a sound program or drivers, the M.B. supplier has to supply them. IF they are installed but not needed they may be conflicting try to hook the amp up to the M.B. outputs and see if they work. IF they are not installed they may be needed to pass the sound along to the audio card find some for that M.B. and put them in. The instructions for the sound board may tell you something.

XP-PRO does not come with a sound system. NONE
You have to install a sound system. ( just software) When you buy a computer or parts to build one there are disks that come with the M.other B.oard that have the things XP-PRO does not include. Like a set of sound drivers. If you do not have the disk look at the morher boards manufacturer site or the computer makers site and downlaod the sound system. (Many will work but the one that matches the mothr board is best)

Is it a factory computer ? if so just go to the dealer site ie: compacq and look up the model number, they will have the sound program for download
If it is not a factory look at the board most have the mane on them and a number, you can also look in BIOS or SYSTEM for it.

I don't know what the problem is with microsoft and sound drivers, they have never put any in their install disks. You always have to get them else where. For what they charge they should be included
