01 cav wont start
Hi I have a 2001 cavalier and the key wont register when I put it in the ignition. It will turnover but it wont start. When I turn the key the gages don't move, so I am thinking that it is not recognizing the key.
What or how do I fix the problem? Thanks. |

If the Cavalier key is anything like the Grand Am key, the cylinder may be worn out and it won't recognize the key. This happened to a friends Grand Am and he had to have the key cylinder replaced. I guess it is typical for the Grand Am's.
Otherwise, it sounds like an ECU problem. The starter is typically independent of the ECU's ignition and fuel controls. Also, you may want to see if it is throwing any codes. AWDriven |

Look to see if your security light stays on. It will be a huge clue to your problem. If it stays on, your puter in your car is not seeing the code on your key.. If it goes off, I would say its your ignition....

Thanks for the replys guys, and yes the security light stays on. the passlock II is on and it wont let the gas through to the engine.
When i crank it over for two seconds and than leave it the service, security and the gas light all stay on. Thanks. |
