how much cash do you have to play with!!!! if your planning on playing with hdtv once nimiq 82 is fixed stay away from the hardware cards, these are the more expensive cards with the built in mpeg2 decoders and tv out, the newer tv out cards are beginning to come with the hdtv adapters. a stereo plug out the back of your sound card will bring you clean dvd quality sound but if you really want your system to shine, invest in a sound card or motherboard with optical or pcm out. to recieve ac3 you have to run your dvb card in software mode. with pci dvb you can make your reciever as highend or lowend as you want you can eliminate ever componate in your stereo case! it's your satelite, dvd, tivo, juke box, x-box, vcr, ect..... you keep score online and there is even picture in picture plugins floating around all from the comfort of your couch with a wireless mouse! pci dvb systems are not for the puter-a-liter-ates and be prepared to learn german !

I don't think you answered clearly his questions.
The pics on the TV is depending on your video card.

I've recorded programs with my DVB card and hooked up my notebook to my 42 inch big screen and with S-Video, the quality is top notch. I'm probably crazy for saying this but it seems to be slightly better than the regular receivers.

The DVB is capable of getting HDTV

Like they said it all depends on how much you want to spend on the hardware to get it.
A really good video card costs more then the rest of you computer did.

1. Get the biggest fastest computer you can.

2. Get the best DVB card you can

3. Get the top of the line Video card.

4. Get the best dolby audio card and sound system

You will have a home theater system equal to the best

You might want to clarify that HDTV statement a little SJ... Dish uses 8PSK to transmit their HDTV channels, and as far as I know there is no DVB card that can decode 8PSK. You can definately view HDTV programs from other FTA sources, just not dish.
