MythTV

I have never done anything with DVB cards so I am as green as they come.....

I have been looking at setting up a PC based PVR system and have looked at Windows Media Edition 2005 and MythTV. I really hate the look of ProgDVB and MyTheatre but they appear to be the main apps for "Sat Testing". I have heard rumours that a MythTV N2 hack is out and would be interested to know if anyone knows where to get it, or if anyone knows of any working PVR software that is a cool as MythTV or Media Edition.

I have searched this sight and found nothing on MythTV.

My theatre is not that bad. The PVR function in there is not bad. I have not done anything with MythTV.

However, being green in this area makes for a large project to get underway. Do your research and read up on what hardware does what with certain programs.

Hack@d,
If I'm not mistaken, MythTV only works with Linux. If you're not a Linux guru, you might have problems setting up Myth. However, if you can get it set-up, I understand it's one of the best..

d_o_geezer,

That is correct, MythTV is only for Linux and one of the drawbacks since it would appear that the hacks are being developed for windows based solutions.

I did read on another site that there is a hack developed to use with MythTV but have yet to find any evidence of this. Too bad because this would be the cheapest and best looking PVR solution around. If I find out anything I will update this thread.

As much as I hate to C&P From other sites.....xxx.curious-contraptions.com....I thought this might be worth posting here since it may give some more interest to this topic.

Linux and Nag2

It's been a while since much has happened in here so let's see if we can start something back up.

Nag2 for VDR or Myth is pretty easy. There is a new version of SC out now with N2 support. It's version 0.4.8. All you really need to do is update the version of SC and add the N2 keys to your SoftCam.Keys file. You will need to modify the system-nagra.c file in SC for NA though. There's a line that looks like this:

Code:

if((data[1]&0xf0)!=0x70) s^=1; // ugly hack for inverse cws

You'll need to comment that out. Once that's done, build the new version of SC and off you go.

For VDR, you can update the SC version by unpacking SC 0.4.8 in your (vdr dir)/PLUGINS/src and removing the current sc symlink and recreating it pointed to the new SC. Do a make plugins NAGRA=1. That's it.

For Myth, you'll have to rebuild sasc with the new sc version. To do that, unpack the new version of sc in (sasc dir)/PLUGINS/src. Now edit your Makefile and change the scver = entry to read 0.4.8. Then make clean && make. replace your old sasc with the new one and off you go.

Don't forget to add the N2 keys to your Softcam.Keys file(s) though. They'll go something like this:

Code:

N 0001 00 C3...DC
N 0001 M1 AB...BA
N 0101 00 C3...DC
N 0101 M1 AB...BA

That should get VDR and/or Myth back up and running on N2.

Another Cool PVR app...

hxxp://xxx.gbpvr.com/

What is GB-PVR? GB-PVR is a fully featured Personal Video Recorder (PVR), allowing you to schedule TV recordings and view and pause live TV. In additional to this PVR functionality, it also acts as a media center allowing you to watch movies, listen to music, view pictures and listen to FM radio.
