Request Star Tac Phone Info
I didn't know where to put this so I put it here. Feel free to pm me or post here if you have info. Thanks
I was hoping someone had dealt with these older phones on this forums. I live near the airport and that seems to be the only phone that will work well. Cell phone companies can't activate them anymore (no gps track you service/FCC rule) but if you have one like me they will leave it turned on. I purchased a new phone it has a 8 digit hex code I guess its the serial number esn for that phone. My question is does anyone know or have files to read the flash and repair the serial number for that phone. I am not trying to steal service I am just trying to upgrade to a new phone is all. The only other option I have is to switch out electronics and that isn't a new phone. Thanks Joe

What kind of phone are you working with? I'm still unclear as to what you want to do here. You have an old phone with service, and a new phone you want to switch the service to? If they both use the same kind of SIM you can just swap them and do a master reset on the phone you want to use the service with. Let me know the make and model of both phones, so I can hunt for codes for them.

Thanks Drano,
I don't think the phone has a sim card basically its to old a sim card as I know it is a type of smart card. What exactly is a sim card? This is what the phone looks like http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MakeTrack=true I am new to this stuff and appreciate the help. I am unsure of the basic terms but I am good with sat stuff and thought it might be similar. What I wan't to do is turn the old phone into the new by changing or editing the imei? I have a phone like the one pictured and will buy whichever phone I need to duplicate it., Mine is just slap wore out. Thanks, Joe

What service are you running? You may want to contact your service provider to make sure whatever phone you buy is compatible with your network. I'm still a little unclear, basicly you have phone A setup with the phone company, you want to buy phone B and change it so it has phone A's phone number?

I've been hunting around, haven't really seen a whole lot of info on this phone, probably cause it's an older model. If there's no chip in behind the battery, you may have to use a datacable and transfer info from phone A to phone B. You might be able to have it switched for a small fee by the phone co. Check out wwwDOTcellphonehacksDOTcom they have a pretty good database of info over there. In the mean time I'll keep lookin.

the first two can not be subed sims are built in trackphone you buy minuets from a carrier if you could recap the phone it does not pay not in the us. and only the dealer can recap them. putting the phone number in does not work each phone as a serial # for that phone that works with the phone number only one number is used for that phone all new phones have gps built in old phones they use the tryangle to find you. and once they have you on cells they go mobil and get it down to feet. My startac was analog and verision was the carrier but when it ran out of mins it showed att alltel is not the true carrier everyone buys space from ma bell If I was to guess I say verision is the true carrier alltel collects the money gives some to verision and inturn gives att some. Thanks for the input. My cell phone is a verizon but its activated under alltell network. I can change the phone number of the phone very easily. Its that 8 digit hex (esn?) that I am having trouble doing. I guess the eeprom chip could be removed then read and transfered to a new eeprom chip but I don't know what it looks like on the board or where it is? Their is a box that you can buy that allows the changing of imei/esn but the supplier was sold out. My cell has digital capability if that means anything. Thanks for the help.

I did call thats when they told me that they couldn't activate my new star tac phone. They will leave the one I got turned on but won't reactivate a new one even on my account since the new FCC rule they can't. I guess I may have to get someother kind of phone that will work near the airport the problem will be finding one.

dude just upgrade phones. soon TDMA will be toast anyway. I had the 7797 great phone but a dinasour compared to the new phones. To change the IMEI you will need a "black box" like you said most places sold out but if you search enough you'll find one

I use Nextel. I work near an airport about 2500' - 3000' (Aprox) to runway NO Problems. Other carriers that work fine their ATT, old SPRINT (now nextel/sprint) Tmobile, Bellsouth, Verizon. All work fine. INSIDE (& outside) Airports - Nextel, ATT, Verizon, Tmobile, Bellsouth NO Problems...At least in MIA, FLL, WPB, JFK, LGA, CIN, Tenn, GA, SC, Las Vegas, DFW...and a few other. This is all from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. How or why did you get Idea that you wont get service? I have several drivers in and out of airports all day long and have NO Problems contacting them with Walkie Talkie or phone on Nextel. Other carriers are fine as well.... Even locals such as MetroPCS. Last edited by anyplace; 09-26-2005 at 12:58 AM.. |

I live like 4 football fields as the crow flys to the airport. Whenever I drive my automobile within 1/2 mile of it I drop the call. I also live on the Lake and their is a shortage of towers. Maybe its the towers not the airport but I can't understand why I drop calls near the airport. But your question is a good one how do I know and the reason I know is because when I bought my phone the lady at altell told me after asking where I lived she told me that I would not have very good reception unless I got a older motorolla phone? The fact is though that I have owned several phones and when I get close to the airport I drop calls. They have all been with altel. I think I may change service this time. What service has done the best for you around airports? Is it Nextel?

I personally use Nextel.
However, ALL of the above mentioned carriers work fine. I have people that work with me and customers that come in and have had no problem. MetroPCS and Tmobile was bad a couple of years ago. but now not a problem. Most of the companies offer a moneyback Guarantee...if you are not happy with the service. ***USUALLY WITHIN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME FROM SIGNUP*** So you may want to try a few companies to see which works best. If you know someone with other carriers you may wish to ask them to borrow phone or have them come by and try to see what kind of reception they get. I used to have problems with ATT at home also with Metropcs. In the front Yard (and front part of house NO or poor service). In the back yard (and back part of house) OK reception 2 Bars(ATT) 1Bar (Metropcs). Now Nextel 4 Bars- and ATT 3-4 Bars. Hope it helps. |

Wonderful Ideas,
I know a guy that sells all the major carriers. I meet him when I ported my buisness phone to a cell. I will give him a call and see if he will let me bring a few phones home and try them out. Thanks Again, Ray
