Rear wheel drive, it is a old caddy
It should work I think they put a optional 390 or 460 and auto in the F-250 back then and the caddys were 460 and auto about the same size. There is a small block and 3 speed stick in the truck now and it is worn out. So is the caddy but i think it will be woth while. More concerned about the electrical part, hope it has a carb and conventional distrubutor. Waiting for the keys to get a better look at it (under the hood).

Cad into Ford
It's a 429, 472 or 500, depending on the year model.
Smilingjack, my friend, by the time you buy and/or fabricate the necessary parts to put that Cad motor in your F250 (and you don't even know the condition of it at this point) you can buy a good 460 Ford motor and C6 automatic. And cut your installation time by about 75 percent. Think about it. ![]() |

The PU has a worn out small block which I doubt is worth rebuilding and a 3 speed stick which I hate. It is a old utility truck with full contractor boxes and a hydralic lift gate.
Nice toys to have. Make it worth restoring. I can get the whole caddy for $ 100, my neighbor says it runs good and does not smoke and has a good tranny. I will take it for a test drive and see. It has 5 almost new tires that fit my crown vic, and 4 factory wheel covers that sell for $ 30 each here. I can sell the doors for $ 100 each and all the glass is good. so is the hood and trunk lid. It has a A/C and heater which the PU dosen't and I can use with a little N rigging. So even if I junk it out and buy something else I will come out ahead.

To put the AC off of the Caddy into that truck would take a lot of work. Just buy the car, sell it for all that you can get out of it, and then fix the engine in the ford or buy a new long block. You'd still be ahead money and time compared to the work that it would take to install that caddy motor.

I can pull the whole heat A/C box with fan out and stick it under the truck dash in 1 piece. NP
You guys forget I am retired and need toys to play with, From various ventures I have a full auto repair shop set of tools, including the air compressor and air tools and shit AND a full body shop set of tools and equipment, including a buzz box and a wire feed mig/tig and cutting torch sets. That old Mexican Fire Wrench and buzz box can make anything come apart and go back togeather if I am determined enough.

P.S. the car, as a car is not worth shit, the body is dented and rusted, the headliner and upolstry is GONE and there is virtually no paint on it, that's why I can get it so cheap

Back in the day we did things like 300 F chrysler engine in a crosley station wagon
Cadilac engine in a studebaker golden hawk I totally wrecked my chevy A gas drag car and gave up drag racing so I put the engine in my chevy panel truck, 4 mufflers, real sleeper full race 454 blown and injected, buick metalic clutches, used to bait the then "new" 396 turbo hydro corvettes ( which were actually dogs anyway) and blow them off at stop lights. Lots of fun back then.

Call it a hybrid
In my days, I have done many engine swap as you have discribe. I have put a 318 into a vega and on another 350 into a vega. A 327 into a simca and on a 1984 F150, I put a 350 chevy and trans in it. All these projects worked great. Yes it takes time, but you would be surprised at the people that want to look under the hood. Ever watch that show' Junk yard wars" it would give you alot of pointers. When and if you start this project, Keep me posted. I have a wealth of information on just what you are doing. Like the driveshaft, there is a u-joint that if ford on one end and GM on the other. Things like that. Good Luck

The best thing with a driveshaft is to start from scratch, get a new set of ends and have a tube made to fit between them. been there done that

The F-250 also came with the 390 / 460 options so there is plenty of room.
I hardly ever drive it, I use it as a big tool box since I have everything from my auto repair and my body shop in it. I have been working on it for a while, and put a 1 1/2 ton Radiator in it some time ago because I got it free when I needed a new one. Have been playing with cars for 50 years, since back in the hot rod days, Since it dosen't matter how long it takes, I can do just about anything I want to it. I just finished spraying in a bed liner. 3 galons, that shit does not go very far.

It sounds like a plan I drive a 2004 trailblazer but in 2 years I need to turn it in or buy it out for 15g's. So my plan is to take my 1985 cj7 and restore it Iam retired so I have lots of time I also have a 1989 deville with fuel inj v8 way too big for jeep you need to pry the plugs out to change them the jeep has straight 6 threw a rod but all factory its a classic and has the front frame for the winch hardtop and conv auto with 25yrs in the auto repair and machinest +bodywork may be a creampuff.

![]() ![]() ![]() And I can take a year or two to do it if I live that long. When I get the keys I will find out just what it is and how it runs, I have never heard it yet, I can fix anything but the ignition system if it has a computer, but I don't think it does. The onl part I will have to HAVE MADE is the driveshaft, I can do the rest of the fabrication myself. I don't have a lift but I can get it up high enough and have some young, cheap, labor if needed. I forgot to mention, I have also put a 350 chevy into a 914 porsche, now that was a tight fit. They were DOGS, I had so much toruble with the fuel injection I got a dual webber 44IDA carb kit from station 1 in Pheonix and it doubled the horses, then I saw a 914 in Vegas with the conversion and I found the kit to put the chevvy in so I bought it. KICK ASS 914 with a 375 HP chevvy in that little body.......

Jack it will fit just fine, i have done it to an old AAA wrecker i got for cheap with a Holmes 350 split boom on it.
72 F-250 with a boat anchor 390 and top loader 4 speed with granny 1st. 71 Caddy Seville with 472 and TH 400 tranny. Motor mounts cut from donor caddy k member and welded to ford k member. Tranny mount lined up with stock ford tranny cross member turned upside down. Had to drill 2 new holes to match the TH 400 stock mount. Had to use the caddy radiator due to operator error of the engine hoist ;-) Wiring was straight forward points and condensor on both vehicles. Eliminated the trouble prone ford charging system with regulator, and just put in a GM 1 wire 100 amp marine alternator. Added 2nd power steering pump to run wrecker wenches instead of the original power take off. Driveshaft was fabbed from the original ford by cutting the yoke from the truck off and welding on the yoke from the caddy. For the exaust i fabbed a set of custom headers from scratch with 1/2" flanges i wittled out on the mill, 2" primarys 38" long into 4" collectors, LOTS of low end torque with that combo. I took the tilt collum from the caddy and put it in the truck so i could utilize the collum shifter for the TH 400. I then put the leather power seats out of the caddy in the truck for comfort :-) The boat anchor 390 only got 6 to 7 mpg . With the 472 it gets 13 mpg around town and 15 out on the highway. Well worth the swap on fuel alone not to mention the damn pos 390 kept spitting out rods and crank kits. Now its a Fadilac ;-)

Well you did a lot more than I will have to do.
I already have a 1 ton truck radiator in it. I will use the caddy alternator if I can it's bigger than the ford. HMMM power steering, truck does not have it I have to see if I can rube goldberg the caddys in there. Same with driveshaft I will have 2 so I can work something ouy there. I will use the caddy exaust as far as I can don't know if it is single or double, may use 1 from each to make duals. May have to change the colum too, not for the shift I was going to use a floorshift but for the power steering if I can work it out. The seats are shit, don't know if they are worth having re-upolstered, got to check the power units, I recently put a set of high buckets from a van in the truck, not power but I kind of like them.

The big thing I ran into with a caddy 472 is the oil pan. Where the oil pan dips down for the oil pump was in the front on the caddy and my truck motor was in the back. Also had to change one end of the yoke to fit the tranny. The power sterring pump was also on the wrong side but sounds like you don't have that trouble
