The best way to visit this and other controversial sites is through anonymizing proxies. While there are many pay serveices that are fast you can use one of thousands a bit slower public proxies available.

I suggest using a proxy to access a hotmail or yahoo web based mail account to send email you don't want traced back to you. Pick a proxy that supports SSL to access secured pages and in general "hight anon" proxies offer the ultimate protection.
A proxy entry from this list looks like this lne:

66.30.61.73:22788 hight anon. yes Australia

meaning it's IP addres is 66.30.61.73, it accepts page requests on port 22788 and YES it supports SSL (secure pages) requests and it is located in Australia. In general the father it is the slower but not neccessarily. To configure Internet Explorer to use this proxy click TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/CONNECTIONS/LAN SETTINGS then select the checkboxes "Use Proxy servers..." and "Bypass for local addresses.
In the ADDRESS field paste or type in the IP address or name of the proxy from the list (In this case 66.30.61.73) and in the PORT field input the PORT value 22788. Click OK and try browsing. A nice site to test your current IP address is
http://www.photono-software.de/Stealther/check.php3 where you should see a different IP address displayed if you enable or disable the proxy in your browser as the window will automatically refresh every ten seconds.

Hi MaxHax, There is a whole bunch of folks here that are more than happy to help, but the poor folks like me who don't know much about your system or current configuration, we have to ask a few things.
The more information you can give about your system and setup, the easier it is to help you. You can build a small text file regarding your system, so when you have little problems, you can copy and paste that information into your message window and save retyping it. If you don't know how to log your system information into a text file, go to your start button, go click on run and in the "Run" Window Command Line type, "Dxdiag" and hit run. Let it run a few minutes, it's testing your system. During the Test, dxdiag will ask each device to discribe itself and report back. It takes time to run some of those reports. That will create a text file with more than enough information about your system, you just have to remember to save it as a text file and save it in a place you remember, so you can send it to others, or open it for information you want.
Information is handy to have and the more information a techie type has about your PC, the eaiser it is to reccomend things to try and fix your problem or feature. With knowing very litttle about your system and assuming a whole lot, I would have to guess you have some Firewall that has all your ports locked except for port 80.

Be Very Carefull at ProxyServers and using Anonymizers. Other people are using them too. Becareful when you go out side, DAVE might own the cameras watching you drive down the street and at the Bank ATM also. I know 3 of those satelights are watching me day and night, so I wear 2 different hats to confuse them. I sleep under the covers too. Do you hear that other clicking on your cell phone like I do?

i am using zonealarm, it has a fire wall and an option "hide my ip address when applicable" is this good stuff or i should do more.

It's a good start and I would definately do more but it's something you have to study and figure out what works best for you. Most to the sites will offer some tutoring to help educate you. ZoneAlarm has a tutor, did you watch it?

I've tried quite a few of the proxies on the web site shown at the top of this thread and they don't seem to work any more. They worked a few weeks ago but don't seem to work now. Is it a matter of "just keep trying 'til you find one"?

Running XP Home and IE 6.0 and have followed the instructions.

Get "The page cannot be displayed".

I went with proxify and I like what I've got. 20.00 a year

I have set up a proxy. It works fine, but when I try to go to dssmembers.com or dssftp.com, it says, "You are trying to use a node of the CoDeeN CDN Network. Your IP address is not recognized as a valid PlanetLab address, so your access to CoDeeN does not include all HTTP types" What does this mean??

It only does it on these sites, but not any other ones??

Hey, the samair link is no good anymore, appears dude got hit by some malicious hackers, does anybody know of any other good free anonymous proxy sites?

i didnt see anything refering to proxyrama there, but i did download multiproxy from the link and got a bit closer, at least i get good proxies now. when i change setting in internet options to use 127.0.0.1 and port 8088 i get no internet.. none of these programs are very self explanitory for the n00bish. i'll play some more before breaking down to pay for a service.

If you are using a router then your ip address is hidden and it give a fake one.

Hi recon, I hope you don't mind but a router does a little more than that. In fact it can not give out a fake IP, it gives an IP that means nothing to the requester. A Router is like a small server and it keeps you connected to the rest of the world based on strict rule and it's own OS. Most of the management of the router is done from the inside. All Routers are firewalls just by there very nature. Some routers have more featurers and abilities. They never give out information to the outside wolrd unless they are instructed to do so from someone on the inside would they are protecting. They also have there own operating system, that is almost Virus proof.

Software Firewalls like "Zonealarm" at the one's that hide IP's and most often they only hide the last three octives unless they are told to hide the whole IP compltely. Software Firewalls are infact, much easier to defeat vs Hardware Firewalls.
