quick one about sirius
I have received a pre-activated sirius starmate (ST1) and am not sure when the sub will expire. I'm interested in if this receiver can be modified to block any impending desub commands. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you got it for subbing to sirius on dishnet it will stay on for free as long as you sub to sirius on dish. It is a promotion avail until well today, No more as of Feb 1st.

No, I bought this one used off of fleabay. It was activated when I got it. I thought perhaps that if I left it out of the stream when the desub commands were sent down, and then hooked it up at a later date that it wouldn't deactivate. As of today (Feb. 1st), it is still functioning. It's been freezing every once and awhile since around Midnight last night (buttons won't even respond), so I remove power and when I power it back up it's still going.

I heard rumor to be desubbed it gets the command and then needs to reboot to be turned off, If power to it is never lost it stays on. I may be wrong but just passing along what I heard.

I had heard that about the XM radios. I heard that Sirius sends the desub command for 30 days after you terminate, and then sporadically after that (like charlie). I had thought that this Sirius radio was going to desub today, because I figured the guy I bought it from had paid up through January before he sold it. I've heard if you leave it unstreamed for 30+ days after terminating your sub that it would work thereafter, having never received the desub packet. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I've heard of some Sirius radios simply never getting shut off.

Hmm. What we do know is on dnet Sirius has a tier with a set expiration date so if the desub command is missed it would still deactivate at a later date when the activation tier date is hit since the date wasn't updated as usual from a subscription. This is a possibility as well.
Either way it's nice to have it working free for now. |

Yeah, it's definitely nice to have it free. I'm kind of surprised that there isn't more interest in stream logging, sending commands, or actual hardware modification with Sirius. XM seems to have it's share of testers, but you don't hear much about Sirius.
