Have never done it myself, but you'll need to download a 'how_to' file called 'Junkyard fix' which requires you to jump 2 points on the motherboard for it to upgrade the firmware to BEV.

Just so people know the correct meathod to "Junk Yard Fix" thier IRD's, here you go:

2700 through 4900 IRD

Contact points: sb39 and sb40, located to the right of the tsop, providing you are looking at it from the front.

Method: short before applying power, apply power, 3 seconds later, unshort.

DP301.005 and DP301.010

Contact points: looking at IRD from the front, r275 and r281, just below left tsop. Go here to see a picture.

Method: short for LESS than one second, immediately AFTER applying power to IRD.

DP301.013

Contact points: sb39 and sb40, located one on each side of the left tsop for dual flash models, or only tsop for single flash models, providing you are looking at it from the front of IRD.

Method: short for LESS than one second, immediately AFTER applying power to IRD.

DP501

Contact points: looking at the IRD from the front, your first contact point is just below the ANT IN/TV OUT box (left of HDD), at diode cr20. You want to connect to the right side of that diode. The second is just below the right tsop. It is a tiny silver dot, just above and between sb18 and sb19. This is the hardest contact point to solder to for all IRD's I have tested for the "Junk Yard Fix".

Method: short for LESS than one second, immediately AFTER applying power to IRD.

DP508

Ihave not had the pleasure of testing this IRD, yet, but I believe it would be the same as the DP501...maybe someone can confirm this.

If anyone can think of one I might have missed, please post it here.

Note: If this does not work for you, in the amount of time that was specified above, you need to fix your eeprom first. Use flashedit or satFTA's IRDr (both are great little proggies) to generate a clean virgin eeprom. Also, Dish Pro IRD's may have to be check switched prior to "Junk Yard Fix" (I love that little phrase ).

Good Luck.

the junkyard fix for your receiver is the square silver or #1 pin that is around the tsop. it is u19.solder a wire to it and ground the other end. it should flicker--the picture. wait for 5 min with the reciever turned off.

Thanks for your help. I hear Bev will SWAT the card in future. Just keep this as a original.

Thanks

Anyone know where a F-40 JTAG can be bought? I didn't know there was a JTAG for these models, but if there is, I would sure like to revive my 4500 and my 1000

4000 and 4500 do not need f40 jtag to conv to bev

Ok I have just converted a 4000 uhf and 4500 uhf from dish to bev using the jy fix the 4000 brought up full BEV guide and receives all the channels and has a bev guide and bev firmware, the 4500 required a check switch to be done after conv and shows as ird 4000 receives all channels and has BEV guide and bev firmware DSSHACKER it is not nessasary to buy A f40 jtag to convert these units from dish to bev as i have done this many times with great sucsess some say the uhf models have slipped through ecms as other irds have been hit so who knows

this is my way as per dudeman316 he has a great dish to bev ird converson step by step
-step (1) jump a wire paper clip what ever, from pin 1( square pad marked u19 ) of the 32 pin layout ,to pin 16 of same layout ,pin16 is last pin to the right same line as u 19 check out jy fix posted in forums for pic
-step (2) hold jumper on plug in ird count to 15
-step (3) remove jumper wire (leave power plugged in to ird)
-step (4) connect sat feed coax to ird green light should flash ,screen should be snow, wait a couple mins light should flash ,and ird will come up asking for smart card then to the system info screen and you should see bev firware. (this could take 5 to 20 mins)
note: some irds require you do a check switch to fully see bev and nimiqi 91 sat
-then use what ever cam you are going to use and you have a bev system
>one thing these grey boxes do not like the atmega card ,they will drive you crazy with the 005 nag ,are best suited with the original cam rom2 works great on bev ,
when you hold a jumper on the pin 1 to pin 16 you hold low power to tsop which forces ird to think its corruppted, the ird then update s that is why you need to have the jumper in place before ird is plugged in with cam out and sat signal feed disconected until after you have removed pin 1 to pin 16 jumper

If there was (or still is) a d/lock on that IRD, you may need to repair the cut trace for it to update. BTW, I also have an ex-charlie 4500 that was ECM'd (ecm'd with lock off while trying to update FW - good timing Charlie bastard!). I removed the lock completely and repaired the cut trace....still can't get it to update for BEV. Damn!

when you do the jyfix the power needs to be left on when you remove the jumper then connect the sat feed if light flashes and screen goes to snow light stays on walk away and do something for 30 mins if alls well and your dish is pointed to bev you should see the system info screen with bev firmware
hope this helps
do you have the bev sat aimed to 91?
