Camaro's, 427 HP for the Cops for Christmas.

Does it, or does it not, get in between your toes,(Damit/ or hell)?

Why do cops need hot rods? As many miles as they put down, we should make them drive VW's like they do in Europe. Most of what they do is drive around wasting gas anyway. At least this way they would be somewhat feul efficient. Most high speed chases shouldn't be pursued as a matter of public safety, so that's not a legitimate reason to be driving a hot rod. Plus, these cars come with a heafty price tag. No reason the tax payers should be paying so the cops can drive hot rods.

well the cops drive many cars

1. the original factory car for officials, downtown driving
2. a modified cars with a "police package" put in. an alternator & batty. special springs, special bakes, bigger radiators,
3. the "police pursuit" model, made for chasing cars, an extra quart of Oil, thing that don't brake down the go to "fail safe mode"
.
.
4. and the "intercept models" Those ware made for the "Highway Patrols" for hi-speed in the instates. (like the mustangs and comae)

Most of the cops in our town drive Chevy Impalas, and not the SS version. They'll run 130 anyway, and if they need to go faster than that they have helicopters and Motorolas.

What's odd is that the local Sheriff's department, whose deputies make poverty-level salaries (20-year veterans don't make 30K a year) - has a fleet of Dodge Charger R/T Hemi's. I guess the department figures their employess won't bitch about the low pay as long as they have a cool car to wheel around.

The new Camaro will have no doubt some sort of a base V6 engine (prob the 3.9 that's in lots of GM cars now); it'll have the 6.0/400hp base Corvette engine as an option and presumably the 7.0(427) 505 hp Z06 motor as the top option. I've driven one of those (Vette) and it's absolute wretched excess. Low and second gear are useless on most roads unless burnouts are your thing and you can get in serious trouble real quick once the car hooks up. That's a 200 mph engine in either one of those cars.

If I spent 8 hours a day in a mobile 'office' full of computer screens, radar guns, gun racks, radios, video gear and all sorts of other cop-stuff I sure as hell wouldn't want that office to be a Camaro, even a fast one. A 425hp Hemi Chrysler 300 might be roomy enough, though.

That way the Chevy lost the police contract.
They are putting 6 in all the models
And they wanted to make the Front wheel drive
they wanted to use the V-8 in their line and the converts the police line to SUV / suburban lines. More money.

Ford still make them V-8 with rear wheel drive, that what police like, they don't like front wheel drive

Does anyone really like front wheel drive? I mean it's economical and has it's benifits in the snow, but other than that, I can't stand front wheel drive. They don't slide predictably.

In my town (north of the 49th parallel and we have a baseball team....named after a bird) our entry level Cops start @ $50K/yr and no one in a squad car is middle aged and has a gut hanging over his belt.

Old guys drive a desk. With regards to pursuit cars, yes we have them. The avg. cruiser is a crown vic, and it's a matter of radio communications, other cars and of course the Chopper.

I don't believe in abandoning high speed pursuits as they'll probably end up killing some innocent civilian an hour later, have to take them down. They have to be taught that they will be run down and arrested and go to Jail, any weakness and everyone will Run.

I'd also vote for any politician that suggests a minimum 3 years for not stopping on top what other crime they have committed and any gun related crimes......10 years for having/using it and whatever on top!!

It's time we get tough with these bastards!!

I think front wheel drives are great if you do any training on them. I have taken skid school courses about every 2-3 years for work and once you know how to push them to the limits, they slide very predictably, but you definitely need to drive them different than rear wheel. The basic is when the back ens slides out, you need to point the front wheels where you want to go and hit the gas, it will pull you out of the skid and point you in the direction you want to go.

Take a good 2 or 3 day course, I know the Goodyear couse is very good, they supply the vehicles (mix of front and rear) and usually have one high performance car to drive.

With ABS and traction control there is no such a thing as tire skid.

I wonder what the transmission and rear diff gear ratios are in the new Camaro?

It would be nice to have a little of both bottom and top end.
