Do you ahve a fatboy or slimline.
Fatboys require the network adapter and are very easy to install. Slimlines uses a mod that requires soldering. Maxtors and Seagates work best.. Western Digitals work too, but the network adapter needs a small modification. Budreaux

But you ahve to boot with one disk and the "swap" out the disk after the PS2 boots up. The HD/HDLoader combo is a very nice setup. However, HDLoader doesn;t support on-line play, but for normal play, the load times are much faster. You can get a 200g HD for $40 and the network adapter for 20-35, depending on where you look. Once you boot your PS2 you can then load your games to the harddrive. I love this because of my kids.. there are no disks to scratch. I put HDLoader on the mem. card and boot from there. When we rent a game, the kids just pop it in the PS2 and play it, if they like it, then they copy it to the harddrive and we take the game back and they have it to play anytime they like. The HDLoader interface shows all your games in a list and you just select the game ya wanna play. I highly recommend that setup. Budreaux
