About 6 years ago four of us rented an RV with that chassis, idea was to attend a Nascar race. Stop for some food and Gas in Penn. and the same thing happened to us. Naturally we feared the worst, checked the tranny cooler and lines for leaks, then the fluid level and color and all was well.

Hmm.....maybe it's the Rube Goldberg type linkage and yup was very 'sloppy' and got it going forward and the next truck shop had a shop that was open.

Fifteen minutes and $40 later we were on our way and of course were reimbursed by the rental outfit when we got home.

so far have tracked this down from an rv Q and A forum

Auto Park update
In neutral the manual parking brake can be applied. In park -a series of relays and switches are activated turning on a motor. the motor pulls a cable on a brake drum located between the transmission and the drive shaft. I had to cut a short cable at the drum to release the brake. cost of repair --a little over 1,000 dollars. splitting with the dealer. still ouch.

i guess i'll prowl around underneath and see if i can isolate some stuff.......it's working by and large but am concerned about it failing completely

yup.....there's a brake drum betweem tranny and drive shaft......one cable looks like it goes to the parking brake foot pedal........the other runs to an enclosure housing a fluid reservoir and what looks like a pump or motor......can only get a peek at the setup without taking stuff apart....anyone know a site for schematics......i'm hoping for loose or corroded connection somewhere

Whoa!
Our problem was going from Park to Drive, just wouldn't engage and in neutral, took about six tries and went past 'D' and then back and finally caught it. If it's that center driveline brake you'd feel it when attempting to move forward, good luck!

the park brake drum is located between the tranny and the drive shaft.......with the dash auto park lite on and the shifter lever in D (sometimes the lite won't go out), the engine revs but no forward push detected (same same for reverse).........i'm getting the impression that the mechanism is to replace (or enhance) the park dog in a normal transmission which probably isn't intended for hill parking a vehicle this heavy.......will stop into rv dealer today and ask around......thanx for the replies
