hi food evening fellows. i have a problem with my PC in the kids room and i need a little info fellows. it was showing good and all of a sudden when i put it on and it loads up says a windows file is corrupt and needs repairing. please put in a windows CD and press R for recovery console. oh by the way i am running windows xp and when i press R for recovery console it takes me to a black screen and says which windows is this and the i press 1 for windows xp. then it says type in the password for this windows. i do not know what password it is asking me for can somebody tell me step for step what i need to do. if it doesn't ask me to type in the password it goes to a black screen and says quit recovery console and restart your computer. can someone tell me please how can i save the information that is on this hard drive and use the recovery console.
kept fooling around with it and this is the error message it is saying now inf file txtsetup.sfi is corrupt or missing status Z. setup cannot continue press any key to exit. did any body ever had this error and fixed it. remember i have stuff on this hard drive i will like to save. can someone give me a how to on how to get rid of this. i will be thankful for any help on how to get rid of this error.

Go back in time and do a restore, if that doesn't work try booting in safe mode.

Oops, just reread and it won't even boot so that won't work. Try booting in safe mode and see if that works.

Did you set up an Admin password when installing and your kids are users??

Beleave it or not, but, if u never set up an admin password, all zeros sometimes work
